7.2.6 Freer’s Double-Ended Periosteum Elevator

Key Points

It is a long, stout instrument with double end that gives more versatility of using sharp or blunt tips, and the shaft is serrated or knurled for better grip (Fig. 7.6). The sharp tip can act as a cutting tool and avoids shredding of the periosteal edge. The two small horizontal protrusions point towards the sharper tip end. The blunt tip provides atraumatic lift and dissection, and an extra bent can be used as a “seeker” to dissect between maxillary-lacrimal sutures in endoscopic DCR.
